AST Services

AST Services (www.aststairlifts.co.uk) install, sell and hire out stair lifts in the Thames Valley and west London area..

They had an existing website but wanted to rebuild it with a smarter, cleaner and fresher look and with some new features to provide information to their customers. They also wanted the option to login and make changes to pages themselves which is possible using the Joomla! CMS.

Amongst the features on the site are a custom google map on the front page outlining their service area, a photo gallery to display varying stairlift models and a testimonial page that allows customers to submit testimonials straight to the website (after approval). The photo gallery is also implemented on the testimonial page to display hand written letters sent in by satisfied customers.

GHL Office Furniture

GHL Office Furniture (www.ghlofficefurniture.co.uk) is a business based in New Haw, Surrey selling office chairs, desk and furniture to the surrounding area.

Having only been in business a year at that time they didn't have a website of their own and wanted one to compliment their successful referral business. They didn't want sell online but instead to use the website as a catalogue to showcase their products.

Using the Joomla! CMS we implemented a catalogue solution using the Virtuemart shopping cart component. Using Virtuemart also means if the client ever wanted to sell online this could be arranged.

The site also has a picture gallery where the client wanted to store the myriad of fabric options they can provide for some of their chairs. Although a seperate function to Virtuemart we integrated the two so that the range of fabrics can be viewed from the appropriate products.

mycornishholiday.com

mycornishholiday.com is a family owned holiday cottage rental business based in Penzance, Cornwall.

They had an existing static site but approached Hounslow Online because they wanted to integrate an availability calendar and booking system for their multiple properties and to have the ability to easily update the pages using a content management system.

We migrated the content from their static website to the Joomla! content management system, integrating a slick photo gallery system to show the property internals. We also created a section for them to enter any special offers they are running and by linking that to their Facebook fan page it will automatically post the offers to their "fans". This saves them having to post the offer once on their website and then again to their Facebook page

The client did not want to have online bookings so the booking system was setup to just show the availability for each of their properties and to allow them to enter bookings from a management area of the website.

The Finishing Touch

The Finishing Touch (www.thefinishingtouchltd.com) is a painting & decorating business based in south-west London.

The client approached us because he wanted help build his website which he had bought the domain name to some time ago but didn't have the time or knowledge to setup even though he bought a DIY package from a hosting company.

He brief was for a simple, elegant website where he could show off previous work in a gallery, post/receive testimonials from happy clients and convey the services he offers in a easy to read manner.

We implemented all this and deliberately kept the site to as few pages as possible trying to get the key services highlighted on the front page to aid in search engine results.

Finally to help spread the word amongst their friends & family we set up a Facebook fan page and linked it to the site. Facebook can be a very powerful marketing tool especially for personal recommendations and we're keen to use it when appropriate.

Dart Stables

Dart Stables (www.dartstables.com) is one of New Zealand's premier horse trekking operations.

Based in Glenorchy, near the outdoor-sport and ski resort of Queenstown on the South Island their website has helped inform domestic and international visitors about the different horse rides they offer.

Surrounded by stunning mountain scenery the home page utilises a panoramic shot of Glenorchy and the site incorporates a picture gallery to further wet the visitor's appetite.

The site also includes an online booking form which has significantly reduced back office admin, photo gallery, photo testimonial submission form, and a twitter feed which keeps visitors up to date with their latest news.

Finally and important for Dart Stables was search engine ranking on key search words. Their new website has helped propel their search ranking results which mean traffic has increased from a few hundred to a over a thousand unique visits a month.

Pollibee Pictures

Pollibee Pictures (www.pollibee.com) is a small independent film production company based in London, UK.

This client required a specific 'dark and uncluttered' look for their website which they wanted to use to host a portfolio of their previous film projects and publish a directory of cast and crew.

In time the client wishes to publish news items on the site which through use of an RSS feed can then be used to publish automatically to their Facebook fan and Twitter pages saving the extra effort of having to login and do each one manually.

Bees United - The Brentford Supporters Trust

Bees United (www.beesunited.org.uk) is a football supporters trust formed by fans of Brentford Football Club.

The trust orginally had a website developed in the old Joomla 1.0 system which had not been updated or maintained for some time. They wanted someone to give the website a new lease of life which would include a new look and feel and new areas of functionality that would help them serve their membership better.

After being chosen to undertake this task by the trust's board, we migrated the site from the unsupported Joomla 1.0. system to the latest Joomla 1.5.14 system and implemented a new fresh and clean template. We also migrated their old and incompatible document download system, which contained amongst other things meeting agendas and minutes, to a new compatible and easier to navigate one.

A newsletter component was also installed so the board can now easily keep in contact with their members and an event's calendar was added to the site so visitors can keep informed of upcoming meetings and events. Because the site is still using Joomla it will be easy to introduce new functionality in the future when the board requires it.

Hounslow Community Farming Association

The Hounslow Comunnity Farming Association (www.hcfa.org.uk) is a project that started in 2009 with the aim of turning unused brownfield land and allotments in the London borough of Hounslow into agricultural and horticultural use.

They required a simple website they could present to interested parties and potential new members, but one that was also scalable and could offer increased functionality with time. These requirements can be fully met by developing in the Joomla CMS.

The site already has a document repository where visitors can download membership forms, agendas and minutes. It also has a online volunteer rota where members can put their name down for participating in groundwork at their first site in Feltham.

Photos By Lilli (www.photosbylilli.co.uk) is a photographic website where the client wished to advertise and promote her services.

The client required a simple startup website with five pages of information including an "About Me" section, a page on services offered, a testimonial page and a special offer page plus the home page.

Using Joomla it will be easy to upgrade the site to include such things as a photo gallery (either using a Joomla component or embedding an external gallery). Joomla content pages also allow easy embedding of media elements like YouTube which the client has used to give an example of some of her work.

Ticket T Shirts

Ticket T Shirts (www.tickettshirts.co.uk) was quickly developed to help steer more traffic to a t-shirt shop setup using the Spreadshirt.net shop system.

The main advantage of this approach is the shop now has its own unqiue domain name which helps SEO and site recognition. The main portion of the site is a frame for the shop created at Spreadshirt.net but includes navigable and indexed pages for each of the shops main categories.

Like all our sites this too was built in the Joomla CMS and includes a image rotation module to help showcase selected products, and widgets to their Facebook page and Twitter feed.

Hotel Monkey

Hotel Monkey (www.hotelmonkey.co.uk) is a worldwide hotel booking website utilising the reservation engine from booking.com.

As well as the providing the user with a comprehensive reservation system the site incorpoates other information including pages listing hotels near top UK attractions, hotels in top stag and hen party destinations, destination guides, travel news, maps and a link to its sister website, Ticket Monkey (www.theticketmonkey.co.uk)

Hotels Near Twickenham Stadium

Hotels Near Twickenham Stadium (www.hotelsneartwickenhamstadium) is a niche hotel booking website again utilising the reservation engine from booking.com.

The site is aimed at visitors to events at the newly rebuilt Twickenham Stadium in south-west London. Using a Google Map plugin the user can see on the front page which hotels are closest with a colour key helping to identify price bands.

Clicking on a hotel name on the left (or an icon on the map) switches the user's focus to its map where an information box about that hotel pops up. Another click will take the user to that hotel's reservation booking page.

A horizontally scrolling ticker across the top of the page notifies users of upcoming events at the venue and clicking on the link will take them to a affiliate partner where tickets can be purchased.

Best Beginnings

Best Beginnings (www.bestbeginnings.org.uk) is a child health charity based in North London.

They already had developed a Joomla based website in house and when their webmaster left on maternity leave they asked us to take over management and administration of their site.

As well as basic day to day admin, we set about redesigning the site which had a very complex navigational system. In June this year we relaunched it with a new easy to follow navigational structure and some new features such as an events calendar.

The site also has its own community forum (Kunena) and social networking area (JomSocial), which we used to display their nationally released advice video for new mothers.
