More pubs to be demolished / pub-watch 9 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 8
It seems more local heritage is to dissapear off the map with a proposal to demolish the County Arms pub on Hall Road on the Hounslow/Isleworth borders.

Demolition of the existing public house and the erection of fourteen 3 bedroom houses, comprising 4 semi-detached houses and 10 terraced houses with associated access, parking and landscaping

This is such a landmark building and it would be a great shame to lose it. I guess whoever's running it isn't doing a good job and hence the decision to demolish it. I hope it can be saved and a new landlord found who can manage it in a successful fashion.

On my way to Hounslow station last night I passed by "Bar Bhangra" on the corner of Station Road/Hanworth Road. This has now closed down which comes as no surprise to me. It's a traditional urban pub building which was ruined when the owners decided to replace the wooden windows with cheap and nasty white UPVC with opaque glass.

Also, I had heard rumours that The South Western pub on the corner of Whitton Road and Whitton Dene was being refurbished. I was aghast when passing it late last night on the 281 to see it is now called the "Blue Ginger Bar" complete with tacky blue and red neon lighting!!!

The South Western was a traditional large pub building and all it needed was a refurb and a probably a good kitchen doing quality basic food and a good Sunday lunch. With its large garden it had a lot of potential to be a good local family pub. Unfortunately it now looks like a bar that would be more suited to Soho not the Whitton/Hounslow borders. They do "Indian Cuisine" but really a pub/bar should stick to more conventional tastes.

Good luck to the new owners but and I hope they prove me wrong but I can't see it lasting long considering how similar projects like Bar Bhangra and also the disaster that was the Milford Arms/TJ's Bar fiasco (London Rd/Thornbury Road)

The Wishing Well pub on the Staines Road has closed "until further notice". Whether this means it's refurbished I don't know but there was a builder's light on the other day and today the gas fire was on, so it seems it hasn't been abandoned.

On my rounds introducing this site to the pubs of Hounslow I found out that the Royal Albion on Hibernia Road is closed. This little pub has always looked a bit rough but it's sad to see it closed.

Hopefully it still has some potential and can be reopended but I guess that depends on support from the residents around it.
