Subject: Brentford burst water main updates - by: PaulyPaul

Hounslow Council are issuing updates on another burst water mains in the Brentford area of London Road.

A major water main has burst in the Brentford area – which has resulted in the part closure of London Road.

Traffic entering Brentford at Syon Lane or Half Acre is being diverted away from the area. People should check www.tfl.gov.uk before starting their journey. Brentford High Street is likely to be closed for at least 10 days as repairs need to be undertaken to the road and footway.

The burst water main has been switched off. We are aware that many people will be experiencing low water pressure, but no one should be without water. Water should have been fully restored by 1500. Bottled water can be collected from the following locations:

The Crown Public House, 174 Richmond Road, Junction of Orleans Road TW1 2NH
West Middlesex Hospital, TW7 6AF
Pets at Home, 2-10 London Road, TW8 8JW

We are not aware of any electricity problems in the borough, with the exception of those properties flooded. Properties flooded should speak to electricity providers before switching electricity back on.

If you or your property have been affected by this incident. Thames Water loss adjustors are on site and can be contacted on 020 7407 55 99.

In the off chance you haven't heard yet a 24 hour tube strike starts this afternoon. I got this email from TfL:

I am writing to let you know that the RMT and TSSA have called a 24 hour strike on the Tube next week. If the strike goes ahead, Tube services are likely to be disrupted from early evening on Monday 6 September and will not return to normal until Wednesday morning.

Where possible, we will keep stations open and will run as many trains as we safely can. Please check before you travel to see how services are affected.

A range of alternative transport is available. Cycling or walking may also be practical options for many.

For the latest information and help planning your journeys, visit tfl.gov.uk

Subject: £110,000 to refurbish Inwood Park toilet block! - by: PaulyPaul

Just found this report in the depths of the council's website:

Inwood Park Improvements (http://democraticservices.hounslow.gov.uk/mgConvert2PDF.aspx?ID=52455)

It appears that part of the improvements to Inwood Park include refurbishment of the long abandoned toilet block near the entrance. This is all very good but I was shocked to see it would cost £110,000!

For double that you can get a whole house, so why would a steam clean, paint job and new toilets & sinks cost so much?

Regardless, it is good to see money being invested into Inwood Park which is still massively underused.

Went to view a property today on Cross Lances Road (well the owner wasn't in which isn't helpful!) and noticed a row of about 8 houses opposite all boarded up.

Does anyone have an info on this as to who's buying them and what their plans are?

I've noticed in the chronny and when passing by that Wheelhouse is closing down again. This time they say its genuinely for good but there's not last day posted which makes me suspicious.

It seems the last closing down announcement was just a ploy to clear their stock.

Proof that's there's plenty of life after 50 - have a look at the site set up by Daniel Wilson four years ago. Do you know of any local shops, cafes, businesses that give concessions to those of us greying at the temples? If so, so share them on our Forum and let Daniel know too.

Thank you!

The original idea surfaced a number of years ago while teaching my mum how to use a computer and the internet. As she honed her computer skills I started to realise there was a growing number of people, just like my mum jumping online to look for information, purchase products and seek information.

That seed of an idea was launched as a hobby called Seniors Discounts in July 2006. An online location where people over 50 could take advantage of age specific discounts and money saving advice. Roll forward to today and we have a thriving community of people 50 plus enjoying the benefits of saving money.

A Community Based Website

Seniors Discounts continues its march towards being a community based website, where myself and the members of Seniors Discounts work together for the benefit of the community. What I mean by this is it will always remain free to its members, however to do this it will require a small amount of effort from each member to help spread the word - whether it being telling a friend about Seniors Discounts, informing us of a seniors discount or offer in their local area or going further by requesting a discount from a local business and then letting us know. By us working together and all putting in a little bit of effort the savings for all could be tremendous.

To become part of our community and join for free please Register Today.

In the spirit of being a community based website, we provide FREE Advertising to all business who are willing to offer a seniors discount. Apart from the obvious benefits of free advertising please visit Free Business Advertising to find out why your business should welcome seniors through its doors.

I would highly recommend visiting Hounslow before committing to any rent/buy agreement as I am used to the aircraft having been here so long. For you however it might be intolerable or you might think it's not so bad.

Here's a link to pdf showing westerly arrivals at LHR:

Also, what specificly do you want to know about the community?
